Plasma Cell-Free DNA to Differentiate Malignant from Benign Thyroid Nodules

چکیده
Abstract Background Molecular testing is increasingly used to identify malignancy in thyroid nodules (especially indeterminate category). Measurement of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) levels from plasma has been useful diagnosis cancers other organs/tissues; herein we analyze cfDNA patients with explore the possibility establishing a cutoff for identification malignancy. Methods Patients underwent ultrasonography (USG) and USG-guided fine needle aspiration as well surgery, where indicated. Cell-free was extracted quantified. In initial analysis (determination cutoff), were compared between Bethesda 2 5 &6 establish value that could differentiate malignant benign nodules. subsequent analysis, aforementioned applied (validation cutoff) those check ability predict Results Fine (n = 119) yielded 69) & 6 13) who histopathological confirmation. these groups 22.85 ± 1.27 96.20 8.31 (ng/mL) respectively. A 67.9 ng/mL, area under curve 0.992 (95% CI, 0.97-1.0) 100% sensitivity 93% specificity established lesions. Indeterminate group (Bethesda 3 4) surgery (malignant n 24), (benign 13), using previously identified cfDNA, able lesions 92.3%. There very strong agreement cfDNA-based classification histopathology-based (Cohen’s kappa 0.94; P < 0.001) Conclusion Plasma estimation help

Distinguishing Benign from Malignant Nodules
L ung cancer causes more cancer-related deaths in the United States than any other malignancy. Two facts account for this disturbing observation. The incidence of lung cancer in both men and women has progressively increased in recent years. Treatment of lung cancer remains largely ineffective. The overall 5-year survival rate for patients with lung cancer may be as low as 7 percent to 14 perce...

Indeterminate cytology results increase the number of repetitive procedure and unnecessary surgery. This study was designed to find useful and simple predictive tools to differentiate malignant thyroid nodules from indeterminate nodules. We retrospectively enrolled 164 patients who had undergone thyroid surgery as a result of indeterminate cytology in the National Cancer Center. We reviewed pat...
متن کاملComputerize classification of Benign and malignant thyroid nodules by ultrasound imaging
Introduction: Early detection and treatment of thyroid nodules increase the cure rate and provide optimal treatment. Ultrasound is the chosen imaging technique for assessment of thyroid nodules. Confirmation of the diagnosis usually demands repeated fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). So, current management, has morbidity and non zero mortality. The goal of the present study ...

BACKGROUND Real-time elastography (RTE) and shear wave elastography (SWE) are noninvasive and easily available imaging techniques that measure the tissue strain, and it has been reported that the sensitivity and the specificity of elastography were better in differentiating between benign and malignant thyroid nodules than conventional technologies. METHODS Relevant articles were searched in ...
